Project Spotlight: Family Friendly
This family friendly space balances outdoor areas for adults and kids. The seldom used front lawn held in place by huge boulders was removed so a new retaining wall could help to expand and level out the area. The new front paver patio takes better advantage of the mountain view while dense plantings (including large transplants) add a subtle layer of privacy from the street. New steps with low-voltage lighting provide a safe and welcoming entrance. The side deck was resurfaced and a new trellis screen provides privacy from the neighbors. The old at-grade lower deck was replaced with an expanded paver patio area for much less maintenance. A new fence on all sides provides privacy while allowing a “secret” gate for the neighbor’s kids to visit (the neighbor got all new fencing as well).
Edible plants of blueberries, strawberries and a relocated apple tree surrounding the play equipment provide easy snacking. The large under-deck storage area was transformed from a sloped gravel walk that was cramped and weedy into a useful and well-lit paver utility/ play area that is now a favorite spot for chalk art. Property wide automatic irrigation feeds all the plantings including the pots on the upper deck.
